Planning pre-wedding aesthetic treatments? Here’s what you should know

Thinking about aesthetic treatments before your wedding? For our latest Ask a Wedding Pro series, we asked Ashley Wilson Medical Aesthetics to give us the full 411 on what brides and grooms-to-be need to know. Here’s her best advice on when to start, what she wishes more people knew before booking and when you should plan to have your last treatment before the big day.

How far in advance should someone start aesthetic treatments before their wedding?

The best place to start is with a consultation 6–12 months before the big day. This gives us time to create a personalized plan around your individual goals and timeline. I know life gets busy, so there are treatment options that can be done closer to the wedding, but I generally recommend having treatments completed at least a month before to allow everything to settle and ensure you feel your best.

What’s one thing you wish more brides knew before booking aesthetic treatments?

Choose an injector you trust and feel comfortable communicating with. Ask about their approach, ask to see a strong portfolio of before-and-after results, and make sure their aesthetic aligns with your goals. I also recommend choosing an injector who regularly invests in continuing education and advanced training. Most importantly, you should never feel pressured or talked into a treatment.

If someone wants to look refreshed for their wedding but still completely like themselves, what do you usually recommend?

No two faces are the same, and everyone is uniquely beautiful. I recommend a personalized approach focused on subtle, strategic treatments that enhance your individual features rather than trying to change them. We’ll discuss your goals and decide what is best to help you achieve them, whether that’s skincare, Botox, filler, or a combination. The goal is to look refreshed, balanced, and completely like yourself.

What’s one aesthetics mistake you see people make when preparing for a big event?

Waiting until the last minute or trying to do too much at once. Your wedding week isn’t the time to experiment with new treatments or make dramatic changes. If a bride comes to me too close to her wedding, I may recommend waiting or skipping certain treatments if there isn’t enough time for the skin to heal or treatments to fully settle.

When should brides plan to have their last treatments prior to their wedding?

For Botox, I generally recommend 2–4 weeks before the wedding so it has time to fully settle and allows for any minor adjustments if needed. Other treatments vary depending on the treatment and potential downtime. I always recommend avoiding brand-new treatments immediately before the wedding.
